"Although earnings prospects are muted at best, JTI generates about 40 sen to 45 sen per share in free cash flows that it can pay out in full each year on top of its excess cash of MYR1.09 per share," Aseam says in report; expects JTI to pay a minimum 40 sen/share in 2008 which translates to 10.1% yield. Keeps Hold rating with MYR4.45 target price for now; cites limited trading liquidity.

Malaysian cigarette maker JT International Bhd. (2615.KU) Wednesday said first quarter net profit rose 11%, and declared total dividend of 43 sen a share. The dividend comprises a 15 sen interim dividend and a tax-exempt special dividend of 28 sen, payable June 2.
JT International, which makes Salem and Mild Seven cigarettes, said net profit rose to MYR30.8 million in the three months ended March 31 from MYR27.8 million a year earlier.
The rise in net profit was mainly due to an increase in sales volume, buoyed by strong demand during the Lunar New Year holiday season.

JT International declares 43 sen dividends per shareKUALA LUMPUR: JT International Bhd (JTI) posted net profit of RM30.75mil for the first quarter ended March 31, 2008, up 10.7% from RM27.74mil in the previous corresponding quarter.
In a statement issued to Bursa Malaysia on Wednesday, JTI said revenue rose 20.8% to RM251.32mil from RM207.95mil while earnings per share was 11.8 sen compared with 10.6 sen.
It declared a total of 43 sen in dividend, comprising of an interim dividend of 15 sen per share and a special tax-exempt dividend of 28 sen per share.
JTI said the increase in revenue was due to higher cigarette prices and improved sales volume. The increase in sales volume was driven by buoyant demand during the Chinese New Year festivity, coupled with successful trade programmes.

“The group anticipates a further decline in overall industry sales in 2008, albeit at a slower rate compared to the previous year,” it said.
It said the growth of exceptionally low priced cigarettes coupled with the rampant proliferation of the illicit cigarette trade would continue to exert pressure on sales volume, especially following the significant excise increase in July 2007.
